Sony is on the verge of launching what may be the most premium console of all time—and a test of how much its most hardcore fans will spend on a cutting edge PlayStation.
The newly announced PlayStation 5 Pro, which goes on sale November 7, is designed to offer high frame-rates and high graphical detail, instead of asking players to choose between them, according to a video presentation by lead system architect Mark Cerny.
Sony leadership has been pushing to improve profit margins for its gaming division and announced the Pro will cost $700, a premium over the $500 base PS5 that, unlike the Pro, includes a disc drive.
Even adjusted for inflation the PS5 Pro will be PlayStation’s third most expensive console ever.
