I’m oddly excited about the ‘mousy’ joy cons. One thing the switch was good at that it never gets much credit for is being the best console for digital adaptations of tabletop games. Wingspan, Root, Everdell, Concordia and many more all seemed to come to the Switch either first or exclusively. Having something like a mouse might help it to double down on that and even bring in digital versions of heavier games such as the recent digital edition of Ark Nova.

It's interesting and I like seeing Nintendo experiment. That said, the Switch already has a touch screen--and presumably the Switch 2 will as well--so I'm curious what kind of experiences would compel them to feel they needed to go to the expense of having mouse-like controls as well. Maybe they didn't like how touchscreen games played in tabletop and TV mode and wanted this kind of option to support better cursor control? If this is all accurate, of course.

> Amir Satvat, the Tencent executive who has advocated for and advised many laid off game workers, believes that hiring in the industry is close to keeping up with job losses

Based on headlines alone it would seem that only layoffs are occurring. Are there any kinds of headlines you could report movement in the opposite direction?

Well, that's the thing. Hiring in gaming seldom makes headlines, because it tends to be piecemeal. If you click through on the Venture Beat link, you'll see that Satvat regularly checks job listings at game companies to try to assess the amount of hiring going on.

I've previously reported that there were major headcount increases at many big game publishers around 2020-2-22 that largely went unreported, to the point that the more recent, heavy cuts may not have cancelled them out everywhere. Headcounts eventually show up in publicly traded companies' annual reports, but there's a lengthy lag

Thanks. This is a great example of headlines alone can't represent entirely what's going on. Thank goodness for in-depth reporting!

Can’t remember the last strategy game that was great out of the box. (Looking at you, paradox)
